Seoul National University and Samsung Electronics to Present XMODEL-based Verification Framework for NAND Flash Memory Sensing Systems at ICCAD 2020

Scientific Analog, Inc. congratulates the researchers affiliated with Seoul National University and Samsung Electronics, Co., Ltd., Korea on the recent acceptance of their paper titled “Modeling and Simulation of NAND Flash Memory Sensing Systems with Cell-to-Cell Vth Variations” to the 2020 International Conference on Computer-Aided Design (ICCAD). The conference will be held virtually on November 2-5, 2020 and the paper will be presented on November 3, during a special session titled, “Computer-Aided Analog and Mixed-Signal Design from System to Layout.” (link)

The paper will showcase a set of models and simulation framework that can assess the effectiveness of various incremental/adaptive algorithms used by NAND flash memories for the read, program, and erase operations, by simulating the progression of the individual cell threshold voltages (Vth). The presented model is written entirely in SystemVerilog, and its analog parts are described with XMODEL primitives, which enable efficient, event-driven simulation of analog circuits within SystemVerilog. It is demonstrated that a 40us simulation of incremental step pulse programming (ISPP) sequence on a 12Kb block of single-level cell (SLC) array takes less than 2 minutes.

“XMODEL really shines when verifying large digital systems mixed with analog circuits in SystemVerilog and I am glad to see that it is also true for NAND flash memories,” said Jaeha Kim, CEO and founder of Scientific Analog.

Scientific Analog, Inc. is a leading developer and provider of a mixed-signal simulator in SystemVerilog (XMODEL), automatic model generator (MODELZEN), and schematic-based design environment (GLISTER). The International Conference on Computer-Aided Design (ICCAD) is the premier conference devoted to technical innovations in electronic design automation. ICCAD is sponsored by the Special Interest Group on Design Automation (SIGDA) of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). ACM is the world's largest educational and scientific computing society and delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession.
